A reconnaissance trip to the Lingyun area of Guanhgxi Province by members of the Yorkshire Ramblers' Club in 1998 indicated potential for much undiscovered cave passage, so this was a return visit to see if the area lived up to expectations. In an extensive exploration of the area they surveyed 12 km of new passage, and carried out biological and chemical studies of the water in the caves.
