This was a very complex medical research expedition studying the effects of altitude on the human body, in particularly on the level of oxygen in arterial blood. More than 200 subjects were studied at a range of altitudes from sea level (in the UK) via Kathmandu, Namche Bazar, Pheriche, Base Camp to (just below) the summit of Mount Everest (8850m) which was reached by the 15 individuals marked *. The results will take many months to analyse, but, combined with the Study carried out in 05/15 (click here for ongoing report) will provide valuable data for future individuals suffering the effects of low oxygen levels, be it due to illness or ascent to high altitude.
