CHANGES TO MEF GRANT APPLICATIONS For expeditions in 2012 and later, the MEF has made a major change to the way that grant applications are to be submitted. Instead of sending paper copies by post, applications must now be submitted as attachments to E-mails sent to the Hon Secretary - preferably in PDF format, although if applicants are unable to do this, other formats are acceptable. To cater for this change, a number of alterations have been made to the ‘Application for Grant’ and various other forms, and potential grant applicants should be certain to use these updated versions, all of which can be downloaded from this website. The new Application for Grant form is MEF App Form Rev 05 June 2011.doc, and must be used for all new applications. (Submissions on earlier versions will not be accepted). It is available to download by selecting ‘Support for Expeditions’ from the MEF Homepage or clicking here, as are the following new forms: Guidelines for Grant Applicants (MEF Guidelines Rev 06 June 2011.PDF) Referee’s proforma (MEF Referee proforma Rev3B June 2011.PDF) Information Sheet (MEF Info sht June 2011.PDF). Therefore, however many times applicants have received MEF support in the past, it is important that they read these carefully before submitting a new application. Thank you NEW HELP PAGE NB. Some Referee's have experienced dificulty with the new proforma's 'SUBMIT' button if sending via internet mail.... ie. Hotmail etc. There is now a help page with simple steps to overcome this problem. click here to jump to the help page.

| George Band 1929-2011
All the 'broad-sheets' carried extensive obituaries of George Band and as expected, there was a massive turnout for his funeral, although a few notable faces were missing. It was sad to learn that neither of the other 1953 Everest survivors (Mike Westmacott & George Lowe) are doing very well at present, with one in Hospital and the other in a Home. However, Kangchenjunga was well represented by Joe Brown (with whom George made the first ascent) and Tony Streather (who was one of the pair who made the second ascent on the following day). The service itself was very much one of remembrance, with several contributions from Georges immediate family. W.H. Ruthven Photograph of George Band by M Lane All reports now in Reports from MEF supported expeditions that took place in 2010 are in and have been summarised by Bill Ruthven. They can be seen on this website, viewed by region |
