Himalayan Late Quaternary Palaeoglaciation
This expedition was part of a larger scientific project which seeks to better understand what role, if any, climactic drivers (as opposed to glaciological drivers) played in differences in the timing and style of Late Quaternary glaciation across the Himalaya. It aims to achieve this by comparing the monsoon-influenced Khumbu Valley in Nepal with the more Westerly influenced Chandra Valley in India. This portion of the project, based in the Khumbu, undertook bathymetry of Pyramid Lake to identify appropriate sample locations, before undertaking the extraction of three cores from the lake bed. These cores will be processed in EARTHLAB at the University of Bergen to analyse
geochemical and geophysical signals to try and identify proxy indications of glacial activity in the Pyramid catchment.
