New Zealand AC Himalayan 1954

This expedition of mostly New Zealand climbers set out to explore the Barun glacier to the east of Everest. As well as a trigonometric survey, the expedition also carried out a reconnaisance of Makalu (climbing to 7000m before retreating due to the collapse of Edmund Hillary) and made the first ascents of more than 20 peaks, including Baruntse (7162m).

1954
Edmund Hillary, George Lowe, Jim McFarlane, Bill Beaven, Norman Hardie, Geoff Harrow, Colin Todd and Brian Wilkins from New Zealand with Charles Evans and Michael Ball from the UK
