Spang Nala Traverse

Advice from locals led this team to approach their objectives from Photang Nala rather than Spang Nala, crossing a pass directly onto the upper glacier. From here they accomplished their primary objective of a single-day traverse linking the three main peaks in the Spang Nala/Chelung Kangri area. During the expedition they also climbed the twin peak directly above Tso Marpo/Red Lake for acclimatisation. After completing their main objective, they took on a more exploratory mode, traversing over two unnamed glaciers to reach the Mantang glacier. Here they completed another linkage, this time of all the major peaks at the head of the Mantang glacier. Inclement weather, particularly snow, slowed progress on the second half of the expedition. As a result the duo circled back to Photoksar rather than descending to Lingshed as originally planned.
