APEX 5 – Altitude Research Expedition
This was the latest in a series of scientific expeditions carrying out research into aspects of the human response to hypoxia. Blood samples were taken from a large team of student volunteers before and after exposure to altitude at Huayana Potosi, in the Cordillera Real, Bolivia. Of specific interest were changes to gene expression in human leukocytes following prolonged exposure to low oxygen levels.
