In July 1980 a team from the division of anaesthesia of Northwich Park Hospital Clinical Research Centre, under Dr J. S. Milledge, conducted an experiment on the effects of exercise and altitude on fluid and electrolyte balance, and other functions of the human body. The results of this study are valuable for the analysis of the causes of mountain sickness.
