Maestri-Egger February Attempt

Whether or not Maestri and Egger actually climbed the North Face of Cerro Torre (3,128m) in 1959 is one of the big unsolved mysteries of the mountains. This was another expedition hoping to obtain proof one way or another, but once again the weather played its part in preserving the mystery. In 2002 (MEF 02/03) this duo managed to climb 360m before an accident to a third team member forced a withdrawal, but in 2003, in the worst conditions for six years, they were prevented from even reaching the peak. Nevertheless, they seem determined to return.
