The British Garwhal Expedition '81

IMF bureaucracy caused this team of three to join up with a party of three French and two Italian climbers. Three members of this mixed party made an attempt on Kalanka (6,913m), sister peak to Changabang, via the south face and west ridge. Highly unstable snow conditions caused the climbing party of Nick Kekus, Bernard Domenech and Guiseppe Martellotti to turn back 100m or so below the summit. During this period, Michel Rioard and Donatello Amore climbed Peak 6187m via a new route up the east spur of a subsiduary peak to reach the north ridge to the summit.

August - September 1981
Derek Howard, Nick Kekus and Andy Hyslop from Britain, with Bernard Domenech, Pen Leyland and Michel Ricard of France, and Giuseppe Martellotti and Donatello Amore of Italy
