Directed by John Porter and Dom Bush, the film, which was part-financed by the MEF, re-examines the 1955 British Kangchenjunga Expedition through the use of detailed research and extensive archival footage.
The judges at Festiwal Górski praised both its editing and its resonant themes of ambition, desire and humility in the face of the mountain.
The 1955 expedition was one of the first to be financed by the newly-formed Mount Everest Foundation and it set a standard for ethical conduct that we continue to uphold to this day. Notably, out of deference to the beliefs of local people, the climbers left the summit of the mountain untrodden.
First shown in 2025 to mark 70 years since the ascent, The Five Treasures of the Snows is currently touring film festivals throughout the world and is set to be released online in 2027.
