This year's session, which takes place at 2.45pm on 23 November in the Lecture Theatre of the Brewery Arts Centre, features contributions from:
- Veteran alpinists Mick Fowler and Victor Saunders who will talk about their attempt to make the first ascent of Point 6010m in a very remote area of Western Nepal.
- At the other end of the age spectrum, Stirling University climbers Benjamin Toole, Dylan Coker, Rosie Aldridge and Megan Cumming who are freshly returned from an expedition to Greenland where they achieved several first ascents and contributed to a large citizen science project on microplastics.
- Sonam Rinzin and Rachel Carr from Newcastle University with an update on their work in the Lunana valley, Bhutan where they are pioneering a warning system to protect locals from Glacier Lake Outburst Floods.
- Peter Thompson who will recount his efforts to climb Khurdopin Sar (6458m) in the Pakistani Karakoram and share some notable tales from his 50 years of expedition climbing.
All of these expeditions were supported by the MEF and/or the Alpine Club and represent the cutting-edge of exploration in both mountaineering and scientific fields. If you want to hear from those who are uncovering new corners at the edge of the map and contributing to new frontiers of human knowledge, this is the talk for you.
