Supporting the exploratory
The meet, which was organised by Young Alpinist Group founder and leader Tom Livingstone, saw ascents of Soleil Glacial on La Sagnette, the south pillar of the Barre Noire, the north ridge of Mont Pelvoux, the Meije via the Pierre-Allain and the Dibona via the Voie Madier.
Alongside these big routes, there were other, less successful outings, which contributed towards building experience and good mountain sense. The meet also helped to build partnerships between YAG members that will come into play as the members of the group continue to climb together over the remaining two and a half years of this training cycle.
The Young Alpinist Group, a three-year training cycle aimed at supporting mountaineers between the ages of 18 and 30 through structured climbing trips and expeditions, has been supported by the Mount Everest Foundation for the last four years. Our hope is that our support helps to incubate the next generation of world-leading British and Irish mountaineers who can go on to do exciting and innovative things in the Greater Ranges of the world.
Previous Young Alpinist Group expeditions have repeated hard routes in Alaska and established new climbs in the Indian Himalaya and the Pakistani Karakoram.
